Quick answer: A freelancer can be the right choice for a simple, contained video need. A production company is usually the better fit when the project has higher stakes, more people, more logistics, more approvals, or a real need for story development before production begins.
This question comes up on almost every first call.
And I get why people hesitate to ask it. Nobody wants to sound like they’re anchoring low. Nobody wants to throw out a number that kills the conversation before it starts. And nobody wants to feel like they’re playing poker.
Choosing a video production company is harder than it should be.
Everybody’s got a reel. Everybody says they’re strategic. Everybody talks about storytelling, collaboration, and results. So if you’re not in this world all day, it can be tough to tell who’s actually right for your project and who just sounds right on a website.
